(Asociación Civil de Ingenieros de la Defensa)

ABOUT ACID

The Civil Association of Spanish Defence Engineers (ACID) was founded in 1987.
It is a non-profit Association with the main income are the fees paid by its
member. Exceptionally can get some economic help from any company or
organisation. http://www.iies.es/defensa/

Historical origin

The Spanish Association of Engineers for the Defense was made up from three
professional associations of military engineers associations “Civil Association
of Engineers of Armament and Industrial Engineers of the Army”, “Civil
Association of Engineers of Construction and Electricity and Engineering Branch”
and “Civil Association of Engineers of Naval Weapons and Industrial Engineers
of the Navy” in its original titles.

But these tree associations do not include every high level engineers belonging
to Armed Forces. As it, later joint to ACID the “Aeronautical Engineers” and
“Geodesic Cartographic Engineers”.

These conforms the ACID main body. But there are also collective members
associated as the Technical Engineers of Armament Association, General Dynamics.-Santa
Barbara and Fiat.

AIMS OF ACID

To provide to its members a forum for exchange of information sharing a common
interest in military engineering in the wider sense developing a huge knowledge
in defence engineering and technology.

Keep to its members updated on the development of defence material and major
engineering technologies in the fields connected to.

ACID aims to contribute to the technical and scientific progress in the field
of defence technologies and economics, to enhance the friendly and professional
relationship among its members, to contribute to the understanding of technical
and scientific problems of the defence and Armed Forces by the Spanish society
and industries.

To accomplish its aims ACID organises symposia, conferences and meetings and
sponsors some publications and publishes a periodic news bulletin.

MEMBERSHIP AND CAREERS

To be a member of ACID is necessary to be:

An engineer graduated at the Politechnical School of the Army in Army Civil
Engineering (Ingenieros de Construcción del Ejército) or in Army Armament
Engineering (Ingenieros de Armamento del Ejército) or at the School of Naval
Armament Engineers (Ingenieros de Armas Navales)

An Engineer graduated in a civil School as Naval Engineer (Ingeniero Naval) or

ACID maintains very tight and corporate relations with the Professional
Colleges of Army Civil Engineers, Army Armament Engineers and Navy Armament
Engineers. The Professional Colleges are those professional bodies that under
Spanish laws establish the official relationship among the members of a
profession –such as medical doctors, lawyers, engineers etc.- and the Spanish
society and corporations. It has to be pointed out that in the case of the
three Colleges they can not represent the interests and the relationships
between its members and the MOD Administration due to the military condition of
the related Engineers Corps.

ACID AS MEMBER OF THE INSTITUTE FOR SPANISH ENGINEERING

Since 1988 ACID is a member of the Instituto de la Ingeniería de España (Institute
for Spanish Engineering I.I.E.S. (http://www.iies.es). The Institute, founded
in 1905, is a federation of all Spanish Engineers Associations (Aeronautical,
Agricultural, Civil Works, Electronics, Mechanical and Electrical, Mining,
Naval, and Defence). There are in Spain around 70.000 engineers associated to
the Instituto. ACID is a very active member of the Instituto and participates
in most of its activities and technical committees. The Instituto has created
under initiative of ACID a Committee of Defence Technology that is chaired by
an ACID representative.
